If you are Slovak or Czech working in London this enterprise could be a good place to have a rest, meet friends and hear your mother tongue. By the entrance you can find a big figure of cook and this is the signal that you are on the right place.

GOOD BEER, ŠFEFÁNIK AND COMPATRIOTS

This place offers lots of things that are typical for Czech and Slovak republic. In menu you can definetely find meals like goulash or gnocchi and you can quench the thirst with well-known Czech beer Budvar and Plzeň. Good dinner costs about 6,50 pounds and beer you can get for 2,80 pounds. The personnel is nice and willing.
The Czecho-slovak pub in London was created in 1939. The first club was entablished in Holborn. It was rented from duke from Bedford. In 1946 the club had to be moved because they couldn´t sell beer. So Czecho-slovak legionnaires got 3000 pounds from Edvard Beneš and can buy house in West End Lane. Later club had bad times because the majority of legionnaires returned home. However arrival of komunism in central Europe caused that emigrants ran away from homes and came here. People can feel this atmosphere in the pub because there are the pictures and busts of statemans from first common republic – president T.G.Masaryk, M.R. Štefánik or names of pilots who died in second world war on bronze board.
Nowdays there is only the copy of this board because original is situated in museum in Prag. The pub is always cramped during world championships in football or hockey. If this pub captures your attention you can just visit it – the doors are open.
