Exhibition SHANGRI-LA in Bratislava


Shangri-la – “welcome in different world”


6.3. – 12.7.2009 is holding unique exhibition “Shangri-la” in Slovak National Museum in Bratislava. There are exhibited thousands original things from collection of Rudolf Švaříček. This interesting man is photographer, traveller, adventurer and rock climber in area of Himalayas, where he has spent 17 years.

An exhibition originated in collaboration with the company The National Geographic, the Slovak National Museum and many excellent companies from abroad.


It consists of more than 500 big-sized photographs, film projections, unique buildings – Hindi and Buddhist temple, monastery, etc., and attractive samples of fauna and flora, too. The exhibition is divided to six parts. First, second, third and fourth part presents „world under thrones of gods“- Nepal, Indies, Tibet and Bhutan with their specialities and exotic. Fifth part tells story about Czech-Slovak-Nepal expedition on Mount Everest. The last part is consists of photo collection made by National Geographic.

The exhibition showes to visitors a world of varied Himalayas region: Indies-Tibet-Bhutan-Nepal. We can see all vegation zones: from tropic valleys to tops of highest mountains, society of remarkable people, many religions and many rare kinds of animals and we can know remarkable countries, which are such different from our hurried civilization, full of new technologies.


The name of this exhibition - Shangri-la means a mythic paradise. It´s named according to a book Lost horizon written in 1933 by James Hilton. The book is about mythic paradise Shangri-la – country of eternal welfare, blessedness and happiness, which is hidden under ice throne of Himalayas gods. If somebody find the paradise, he will never get old....But Shangri-la has been never found....
